Nagasari

"Nagasari - Steamed Traditional South-East Asian Dessert"

Nagasari which essentially means steamed Plaintains in coconut milk sauce is originally a traditional Indonesian snack.

It is very popular and commonly found in Malaysia especially at the Ramadan Bazaars and night markets. It's an easily available traditional snack and most Malaysians have grown up eating it.

Here's an easy recipe with ingredients that are readily available in the supermarket or Asian food stores around the world.

Give it go!

Nagasari Recipe.

Ingredients.

8 Bananas, use plantains like pisang nipah or pisang raja.

2 1/2 cups of coconut milk

Half (1/2) cup of rice flour

Salt and sugar to taste

10 pieces of Banana Leaves for wrapping purposes.

Preparation.

1. Slice the Bananas lengthwise in half.

2. Put the coconut milk, rice flour, sugar and salt in a bowl and mix together until smooth. Use a hand whisk if necessary.

3. Heat the mixture over low fire until it simmers until it becomes custard-like in thickness. Turn off the fire.

4. Spoon the mixture onto each Banana Leaf, top with a sliced Banana, spoon a little more of the mixture.

5. Wrap the Banana Leaves in any style that you like.

6. Steam on high 10 minutes. Serve warm with black coffee.
