Simple Traditional Malaysian Dessert Recipes.

There is a wide variety of Malaysian Dessert Recipes. Bananas are found in abundance in the hot tropical climate of my country, Malaysia.

We're so close to the Equator that it is hot and humid all year round! We have an astoundingly wide variety of Bananas and Banana trees can be found everywhere even in the backyards and gardens of houses in the city!

Bananas are also so common it is even given away free as an act of charity by some Muslim restaurants to their diners on Fridays. (Note: Friday is a holy day for Muslims).

Due to its availability, there are tons of different recipes for Malaysian Dessert recipes and savoury recipes using bananas. Malaysian Recipes use coconut milk a lot. If it's unavailable, best to use fresh milk, preferably low-fat milk instead.

The first malaysian dessert recipe I'm featuring is my personal favorite: the rather peculiar Lepat Pisang. It's rectangular longish shaped and is wrapped in banana leaves. Here's the very simple and easy to prepare Lepat Pisang Recipe.

The next recipe is a malaysian-style cake traditionally cooked over a fire/stove rather than in an oven. For this recipe though, I recommend baking the cake in an oven as it's faster and simpler. Not a lot of us know how to make a cake over a fire these days due to the convenience of modern appliances! :)

This Banana Cake doesn't have the typical texture of a Western-style cake-it's denser and richer and goes well with black sweetened tea served Malaysian style. My mum used to make it very often when I was a kid and it would eaten up in no time at all! This cake is called Bengkang Pisang in Malay.

Pengat Pisang is basically whole or sliced bananas cooked in a rich thick sticky liquid sauce. It can be eaten either chilled or warm.

These Malaysian Dessert recipes are traditionally served as desserts either after lunch, dinner or alternatively, at tea-time.
