Simply Delicious Banana Lassi.

Banana Lassi is delicious and goes superbly well with spicy rich Moghul and Indian meals. It assists in digestion especially if its made in its traditional basic form-Salty Lassi.

Lassi is a staple drink in East Asia namely, India and Pakistan and it has gained popularity throughout the world due to the mushrooming of Moghul and Indian restaurants.

Lassi is a yoghurt-based drink and can be made either sweet or slightly salty with mild spices thrown in. I prefer fruit-based and sweet Lassi as I've got a sweet tooth!

A simple Banana Lassi Recipe.

Ingredients

2 cups plain yoghurt

3 tablespoon honey or 2 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon rose water (optional)

1 cup of banana

about 10 ice cubes

Preparation

1. Dump everything except the ice cubes in a blender and blend until smooth.

2. Add ice cubes one by one; pulsing the blender each time to crush the ice cubes.

3. Run the blender for a further minute until nice and frothy.

4. Serve in a tall glass garnished with mint leaves, if available.

Variants

Sweet Lassi-You can use the recipe for Banana Lassi but omit the bananas.

Salty Lassi- substitute the honey/sugar with half a teaspoon of salt and add cumin seeds before serving.

Suggestions

Do experiment with other fruits....a traditional favourite is Mango Lassi due to the abundance of mangos in East Asia.

Use one large mango, peel it and remove the flesh before dumping into the blender with rest of the ingredients.
