This page is meant to provide some basic information of the Banana plant and Banana Nutrition.

Actually, the word Banana is used to describe not only the fruit but also the plant.

The fruit grows in hanging clusters known as a bunch with an average of 20 fruits to a tier called a hand, and 5-20 tiers to a bunch.

All the hanging clusters is known as a bunch, or commercially as a "banana stem" and can weigh betwen 30 to 50 kgs.

On average the fruit weighs 125 g, of which approximately 75% is water and 25% dry matter content. For every 100 g of Bananas, you'll get

90 kilo calories of Energy,

23g of Carbohydrates,

12g of Sugars,

2.6 g of Dietary Fibre,

only 0.3 g of Fat (Yay!),

1g of Protein,

9mg of vitamin C and

358 mg of Potassium - Great at keeping those nasty cramps away.
